Professional Trader definition

A professional trader is a full-time trader working in an investment bank or hedge fund whose primary role is to manage their clients’ money and earn the best risk-adjusted return on capital.

Professional traders work in investment banks and hedge funds. They have different job descriptions. Professional traders at investment banks are both market makers and proprietary traders. Traders at hedge funds however, have the single role to manage an investment portfolio of multiple assets to achieve the best risk-adjusted return on capital.
